The Law of Cause & Effect which shines the light on our inner wisdom

I would like to share something which we always think about but are never able to comprehend completely – KARMA. This understanding is crucial in therapy.

I found this Lecture of Rudolf Steiner called “Facing Karma” delivered at Vienna in 1912 to be very apt. The following is an abridged and summarized version of the lecture, keeping almost all words intact with only minute editing. The language may appear rather formal, but I feel that the original words used have their own power and changing the tone would only dilute it.

“It is often said very nonchalantly by most spiritual and wise people, that the only goal is to know oneself, and all that one has to do in the world is to be good. It is also profound wisdom to know that to be a good person is one of the most difficult tasks.

To explain this, we take a question about everyday life – a question known to all… How can we find comfort in life when we must suffer in one way or the another, when we fail to find satisfaction in life?

So why do we need comfort, consolation in life? Because we may be sad about a number of events, because we suffer as a result of pain and we ask, “Why is life not arranged for me in such a way that I don’t suffer pain, that I am content?”

This question can only be answered based on true knowledge concerning the nature of human karma, of human destiny.

A small story here:

‘A boy lived until his eighteenth year at the expense of is father. Then the father loses all wealth and now the young man must learn something worthwhile to support himself. Life hits him with pain and privation and obviously he does not react favorably to that. Now we reach a time when this boy has reached fifty years and due to his necessity has educated himself, worked hard and found a foothold in life. He realizes as we all do, that he would not have suffered in his young age if he had acquired a sense of maturity that he now possesses. He would also have remained a good for nothing if he had not been afflicted by pain. So, it was pain that transformed his shortcomings into positive abilities. His shortcomings actually sought pain in order that his immaturity might be removed by being transformed into maturity.’

If we look at the totality of life and face our ‘Karma’ as we understand it, we will conclude that all pain that hit us, that all suffering that comes our way, are of such a nature that they are being sought out by our shortcomings. Since we have these imperfections, there is a wiser being in us who chooses the road to pain and suffering. This wiser being is not the ‘I’ or self of the ordinary life. This being reigns in the depths of our unconscious and remains inaccessible to ordinary consciousness. This Being actually turns our gaze away from easy enjoyment and kindles in us a magic power that seeks the road of pain without our really knowing it. WE ARE GUIDED TO OUR PAINS AND WE SUFFER TO ELIMINATE OUR FAULTS. Thus, we become transformed into something better.

We can try to understand these words theoretically, but much more can be gained when one creates sacred moments in life when one is willing to fill one’s soul with the living content of such words.

Ordinary life, with its work and pressure, commotion, and duties provides little chance to do so. But when we do create a sacred moment, and we say, “I will put aside the transitory effects of life; I will view my sufferings in such a way that I feel how the wise being in me has been attracted by them with a magic power. I realize that without these, I would not have overcome my shortcomings.”

This brings a feeling of blissful wisdom that makes us feel that even if the world appears to be filled with suffering, it is, nevertheless, radiating pure wisdom. What we used to experience as feelings of sadness and attitudes of depression will be transformed into positive attitudes towards life, into strength and energy. Out of these sacred moments in life more harmonious souls and stronger personalities will be born.”

Therapy with NLP, Hypnotherapy and Angelic Reiki bring about these awareness more easily and with reference to the person’s environment. To know more about how they can help, please call for an appointment or send an email.
